 ABOUT THIS EVENT

Organised by Faradale Media-M Sdn Bhd (FMM) with support from RAKAN Sarawak and Destiny Mover, the ‘Unmask the Mind to Thrive and Flourish’ programme, to be held on April 18, 2026 here, aims to equip participants with practical tools to better manage stress and build emotional resilience.

According to a press release by RAKAN Sarawak and Destiny Mover, the initiative responds to growing concerns over the tendency for individuals to mask their struggles behind a façade of calm and control.

The programme is designed as a safe and non-judgmental space where participants are encouraged to explore their emotions and reconnect with their authentic selves.

Event Schedule

Date 18 April 2026 (Saturday)
Venue Dewan Premier Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Bintulu
Target Participants 100 youth/students from:

●        Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Kampus Bintulu

●       TVET MARA Bintulu

●       MRSM Bintulu

●       SABERKAS Bintulu

●       PPWS Bintulu

Time 8:30 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.
Main Narrative The workshop uses the film Azimat as a mirror to examine our own search for external solutions to internal pain, to understand the depth of grief, and to learn how to cultivate resilience from within the support of a mindful and caring community.

The workshop leverages the story of Azimat, a film deeply rooted in Sarawakian culture, as a metaphorical guide.

Just like the main character Hanna, who searches for an external talisman to ease her emotional struggles, today’s youth often seek quick fixes or hide their struggles.

The program will guide participants on a journey to “unmask the mind,” shifting from seeking external validation to building inner Mental Fitness.

With expertise from three strategic partners— Yayasan Dee Hati (grief and loss), Teduh Jiwa Counseling & Consultancy (emotional distress and creative therapy), and the Mentari Bintulu (community mental health)—participants gain perspectives grounded in both professional knowledge and local context.

By exploring the film’s themes interactively, we shift focus from sensational crisis reports to proactive education and community-centered action, equipping each participant to become a first responder to peers in need.

Goals and Strategic Objectives

Primary Goal

Use the film Azimat as a cultural touchpoint to catalyze a shift from passive awareness of mental health issues to proactive, community-centered action.

Strategic Objective

Normalize Conversations Increase the frequency of casual, non-crisis conversations about mental well-being, using film characters and grief themes as safe conversation starters.
Promote Prevention Educate participants on “Mental Hygiene” (sleep, boundaries, social connection, mindfulness) by reframing these habits as a reliable internal “talisman” rather than external objects.
Reduce Stigma Reframe seeking help as a sign of emotional intelligence rather than weakness, showing that everyone, like characters in Azimat, experiences grief, “low battery days,” and emotional conflicts.
Equip for Action Provide participants with knowledge to distinguish normal grief from complicated grief, recognize signs of silent struggle, understand the role of external “tokens of hope,” and learn principles of community-based intervention and responsible reporting to prevent suicide.

Workshop Content & Interactive Modules / (Integration of Azimat with Strategic Partners’ Perspectives)

Mental Fitness (Prevention & Understanding Grief)

Concept:

Treat the mind like an athlete treats their body. Inner strength is the only talisman you truly need. Understand that grief is a process and sometimes it becomes complicated.

Strategic Partner Perspective: Yayasan Dee Hati : “Grief doesn’t have to be lonely. Let Dee Hati be a part of your grief journey.”

Interactive Module: Creating Your ‘Azimat Sejati’ & Mapping the Grief Spectrum

Introduction:
The film Azimat shows a character searching for a magical object to solve her problems. Similarly, she struggles with deep emotional pain. Dee Hati explains that grief goes beyond death; it includes the loss of relationships, jobs, a sense of safety after trauma, and even sentimental possessions.

Module Goal:
Challenge participants to build a true internal “magic” and differentiate between normal and complicated grief.

Activities:

Three “Forging Stations” (15 min each) + 1 “Understanding Grief” Station (15 min)
Participants collect stamps in their ‘Azimat Sejati’ passport.

Station 1 : Breath Talisman (Renewal) – Facilitator : Teduh Jiwa Counseling & Consultancy

  • Learn Box Breathing and Grounding Techniques.
Connection: Just as Hanna seeks a physical talisman, your breath is an invisible, always-accessible talisman. Breathing exercises foster resilience and calmness.

Station 2 :  Movement Talisman (Energy Renewal) – Facilitator : Yayasan Dee Hati

  • Quick physical exercises showing how movement improves mood.
Connection: Dee Hati’s Grief-Informed Yoga demonstrates that grief resides in the body.
  • Moving the body helps process emotional burden.
  • Note: Can switch to Chair Yoga; coordinate with Dee Hati.

Station 3 : Understanding Grief – Facilitator : Yayasan Dee Hati

  • Normal Grief: Strong waves of pain that gradually ease; moments of joy are still possible.
  • Complicated Grief: Persistent longing interfering with daily function; support may be needed if grief persists beyond a year or prevents meaning-making.

Interactive Element: Dee Hati Inspiration Cards listing grief events and warning signs, reinforcing that grief deserves recognition and compassionate care.

Human Spectrum (Stigma Reduction & Silent Struggles)

Concept:
Everyone exists on a daily fluctuating mental health spectrum. Some quietly struggle, appearing fine externally but battling internally. Empathy bridges us to those who are hurting.

Strategic Partner Perspective:

Yayasan Dee Hati : “The power of grief… one simple word describing one’s experiences of loss yet embodies the oceans of emotions that ensue it.”

Interactive Module: Characters Within Us & the “Silent Crack”

Activities:

  1. Character Brainstorm: Identify emotions of Azimat characters (“desperate,” “hopeful,” “confused,” “lonely”).
  2. Empathy Introduction: Recognize that grief encompasses an ocean of emotions. Empathy doesn’t fix or judge, but simply accompanies those in pain.
  3. Silent Line Activity: Arrange participants silently by how often they experience certain emotions. Discuss subtle signs of hidden struggles.

Facilitator Reflection: Recognize different emotional “actors” around us, enabling empathy rather than judgment.

Language Matters (Education, Tokens of Hope & Suicide Prevention)

Concept: Words can heal or harm. External symbols of hope can stabilize or destabilize us. Community-based interventions save lives.

Strategic Partner Perspectives:

  • Teduh Jiwa Counseling & Consultancy: “HeART SPACE therapy sessions combine artistic expression with strengthening Sarawak’s creative landscape.”
  • MENTARI Bintulu : Promotes community-based intervention, responsible reporting, and suicide prevention awareness.

Interactive Module: Expressive Art, Rewriting the Script, & Building a Safety Net

Introduction:

Participants will be divided into two groups:

  • 50 participants will take part in the HeART Space activity.
  • 50 participants will participate in the Flip the Script session.

Participants are required to select and register for their preferred activity through the Google Form provided prior to the workshop.

Activities :

Activity 1 – Tokens of Hope & Responsible Communication

  1. i) HeART Space – Facilitator : Teduh Jiwa : As outlined in the Coping Tools Kit prepared by Teduh Jiwa, one of the expressive and creative coping strategies is art-based expression drawing, painting, or colouring freely without judgment.

Interactive Element:

An art kit will be provided to each participant. During the 30-minute session, participants will be encouraged to express their emotions and thoughts through drawing, painting, or colouring, allowing them to explore their feelings in a safe and creative way.

  1. ii) Flip the Script – Facilitator : MENTARI Bintulu : The facilitator presents a hypothetical scenario from Azimat, where a friend approaches Hanna. Participants are first shown a for example:
“You’re being ridiculous with that ‘azimat’. Just wake up and face reality!”

Interactive Element

Fifty participants will then be invited to rewrite the script by answering the question:
“What could the friend have said instead?”

This activity leads into a short learning segment on responsible communication and just as the media should report on suicide sensitively focusing on hope, help, and recovery rather than sensational details, we must also learn to communicate with care in our personal conversations.

When a friend is struggling, our role is not to dismiss or amplify their pain, but to listen with empathy and understanding.

Through this activity, participants learn how thoughtful language can create a safe space for someone experiencing emotional distress and encourage supportive dialogue rather than judgment.

At the same time, through this activity ALEC model will also be introduce:

A (Ask) “You seem different lately, are you okay?”
L (Listen) Listen fully, without judgment.
E (Encourage) “Have you eaten? Slept? Talked to someone who can help?”
C (Check-in): Follow up the next day.

Activity 2 – Building a Safety Net (Facilitator – Mentari Bintulu)

  • Safety Net Web Activity: Participants create a physical web representing community support, linking warning signs to collective action.
  • Quick Sharing Session – Responsible reporting and suicide prevention
